The vertices of a rectangle are...

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

focus on the point R which is getting translated from: \[R ( -5, -5) \rightarrow R' (-7, -8) \] So look at your x value first. From x= -5 it went to x = -7, From y = -5, it went to y = -8 Can you find the rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeeee no.. I'm sorry

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

in other words, what does\[-7 - (-5) = -7 + 5 = ?\]

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

let's try a different approach then. Does -5 + 2 = -7 or does -5 - 2 = -7 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The second one no?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

correct! :) -5 - 2 = -7 Notice how our ORIGINAL x-coordinate was -5 and AFTER the translation the x-coordinate was -7? This means the rule for the "x" part was x - 2

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

Now we want to focus on the y part. Originally y = -5, after the translation y = -8 So, -5 - 3 = -8 ? or -5 + 3 = -8 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first one

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes so your rule for the "y" part is y - 3 so now you have your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! And thank you for expelling it to me ^_^

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

noooo problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*explaining

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

:)
