That means the same variables and the same exponents.
You can only add together like terms.

\(=\color{red}{3x^2} + \color{green}{7x^2} + \color{red}{2x} + \color{red}{(-5) } + \color{green}{(-4)}\)

\(=\color{red}{3x^2 + 7x^2} + 2x + \color{green}{(-5) + (-4)}\)

\(= 10x^2 + 2x - 9\)
