WILL FAN AND MEDAL!!! An otherwise healthy 40-year-old man was in a car accident that caused damage to his right kidney, and the organ had to be removed. What long-term effect can the removal of his kidney have on his blood pressure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

His blood pressure could increase because of increased blood volume controlled by one remaining kidney. His blood pressure could decrease because of decreased blood volume controlled by one remaining kidney. Are there any long-term problems for people with a single kidney? In general, most people with a single, healthy kidney have few problems. However, some long term problems have been seen in some people. In some people who were born with a single kidney, or had a kidney removed during childhood, there is a chance of some slight loss in kidney function later in life. This usually takes 25 years or more to happen. There may also be a chance of having high blood pressure later in life. However, the loss in kidney function is usually very mild, and life span is normal. Most people with one kidney live healthy, normal lives with few problems.

Kidneys filter the blood keep in mind; without two is more stress onto the system

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that makes it A right?

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

I believe it could be D; A seems incorrect

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

Your blood pressure goes up if all that blood has to be filtered through 1 kidney

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so its D?

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WAIT NO! the answer is A not D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do doesn't make much sense
