In the west, wind blowing over sandstone, carrying grains of sand, hitting more grains of sand. The northeast deals with temperature changes with ice freezing and melting, getting into the crystalline structure of granite and wedging it apart. In the midwest, with its abundant water, combining with the carbon dioxide, causes chemical weathering on limestone.
