well the diversity of life on the planet contradicts A -- evolution can give rise to major, significant differences between populations. animals that do survive can pass on their genes through reproduction, so no to B. 'adaptations' that are encoded in genes can be passed on, so C is incorrect, too... but i'm a bit wary of saying that D is correct, as it's a bit of a tautology -- 'best-adapted' is typically defined in terms of survival, so that statement is someone empty and misleading as nature does not consciously 'adapt' things anyhow

out of the options I think D is the least wrong but I still have qualms with whoever wrote this question as it's inadequate and promotes a flawed view of natural selection
