Find the area

|dw:1436811539254:dw|

OpenStudy (lynfran):

im suppose to get 13/2 as my answer but im not getting that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the area of a triangle is \[1/2 b h\]

OpenStudy (lynfran):

i got 9/4 for the area of the triangle 1/2(1.5*3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where your base is from -1 to 1.5 so that would be 2.5 then your height is 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you take a pic of the problem i need something more precise than the drawing

OpenStudy (lynfran):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have the exact location of where the height ends

OpenStudy (lynfran):

nope

OpenStudy (lynfran):

this is it..but i need to get the area from the graph at the bottom of this site... https://www.symbolab.com/solver/trigonometric-equation-calculator/%5Cint_%7B-1%7D%5E%7B2%7D%5Cleft%7C2x-3%5Cright%7C%20/?origin=enterkey

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i know the b= 2.5 1/2 (2.5) ( h) , my height looks like its greater than 4 and a little past 5 now that you gave the graph we can see that when x is -1 the function has a value of 5 which will be our height 1/2(2.5) (5) 12.5 /2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the are of the large triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*area are u following me

OpenStudy (lynfran):

yes go on..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The smaller triangle has a base of 1 and a height of 1 1/2(1)(1)= Area of the big triangle and the smaller one =1/2 +12.5/2 =13.5/2

OpenStudy (lynfran):

ok continue im getting that..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually I'm looking at the attachment you sent. Do you see that the smaller triangle actually starts at 1.5 and ends at 2. so our base is actually .5 and our height is 1 1/2(1/2) (1) = 1/4 So now we know the 2 areas of the triangle and we can add them 12.5/2 + 1/4 25/4 +1/4 26/4 13/2

OpenStudy (lynfran):

o my gosh and thats all..lol thanks alot...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it wasn't that hard its just breaking them into 2 triangles and then adding them
