ACT help please! I need help with the usage of "have" in a sentence. In the 1850s the O'odham [have borrowed] from the waltzes and mazurkas of people of European descent on their way to California. 12. Look at the section with brackets. F. NO CHANGE G. have been borrowing H. were borrowed J. borrowed I narrowed it down to two answers, F and J. Ultimately, I choose F and was wrong; the correct answer was J. How is that so? When would you use "have" in a sentence?

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

Have been borrowing suggests repetitive or constant actions that began in the past and continue to the present. where in the case I'm assuming it stopped so it was solely in the past.

OpenStudy (albert0898):

Ah, got it! Thanks!

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

No problem!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Feel J is correct, it sounds like the best grammatical choice.
