it depends on the type of essay. a persuasive essay is very opinionated, whereas a literary analysis piece will be all factual. think about the type of essay these two men write.

i take it you've read it. is it opinionated (contains commentary from the author) or is it concrete details (basically, info-dumping material from other sources into a single essay)?

After reading a couple of his essays, he uses a variety of perspectives to derive a conclusion on a matter. Whatever that be.

He was known as a transcendentalist and as such he promoted spirit's ascension to the divine. To do so he had to use angles of thoughts present in the society at the time, to effectively convince the readers his point of view as well as what he thinks is the conclusion.
