OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Graph..

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

2x+y=-8 4x+2y=-16

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

y=-2x/1 -8 y=-2x/1 -8

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

Is it just graphing 2x+y=8 4x+2y=-16 ? did you put it in y=mx+b form first?

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Yes I did.. My graph only goes to 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does you graph only goes to \(6\) in one axis or both axes? Just plug in \(x\) values that are small, but still large enough that you can graph the lines.

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Yes it only goes to 6.. Huh?

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

I got the same line for both equations..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then just graph a /single/ line? When two lines overlay each other in a system of equations, it means there are infinite solutions.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

original 2x+y=-8 4x+2y=-16 y=mx+b form y=2x-8 y=-2x-8

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Yes I know that.. But it was only giving me options of x= a number and y= a number

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

for some reason I got the lines to be perpendicular when I graphed y=2x-8 and y=-2x-8

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

maybe we have to solve for x and y using the graphing method

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

You missed the negative on 2

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Okay.. How do I do that?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

no I didn't. 2x+y=-8 4x+2y=-16 is your original equation so I put it in y=mx+b form for the first equation 2x+y=-8 y=-2x-8 for the second equation I need y to be just y... no digits next to it so I divided the whole thing by 2 4x+2y=-16 2y=-4x-16 so dividing the whole equation by 2 y = -2x-8

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

so we can either graph y=-2x-8 and y=-2x-8 by letting x be any number, use elimination method, or find the y intercept which is set x = 0 for y = -2x-8 and y=-2x-8 oh darn I did miss that negative the first time lol

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

<---- hasn't slept well in 3 days... mistakes are magic XD

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

ok... graphing y = -2x-8 and y =-2x-8 gave me a single line.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

maybe we just need to find intercepts after this... ? y = -2x-8 and y=-2x-8 for x -intercept let y = 0 for y-intercept let x = 0

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Im leaving to take my final in less then 20 minutes.. last night I guessed on this problem

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

hmm... what was the question? could you give me the details?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

was it just graph or find intercepts or solve for x and y ?

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

It was graph

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

ok then change the equations into y=mx+b form and graph letting x be any number you choose and solve for y so take y=-2x-8 for example if I let x = 1 then y = -2(1)-8=-1-8=-10 so the point is (1,-10)

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Thats it???

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yeah if it just said to graph, and that's how you find points manually

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Okay.. Hopefully I remember that

OpenStudy (destinyyyy):

Thank you for your help.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

you're welcome :)
