Tobacco use is the cause of about 22% of cancer deaths. Another 10% is due to obesity, a poor diet, lack of physical activity, and consumption of alcohol. Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation, and environmental pollutants. So largely people's habits, pollution and all make sure that breast cancer still prevails

For a genetic mutation to be passed along to your offspring, the mutation must exist IN YOUR REPRODUCTIVE CELLS -- sperm and/or egg. These are NOT removed by breast cancer surgery! Most cases of breast cancer occur AFTER the woman has had children, so the gene, if it is present, is passed on to her children BEFORE she knows she knows that she has [or will get] cancer. She might also be a CARRIER -- spreading the mutation, but she herself is not affected.

OpenStudy (sword):

it can be passed along due to inheritance too...chromosomes you know... but it is ver very rare
