I have a couple questions

OpenStudy (griffindore):

Craig wants to use an elevator to carry identical packages having the same weight. Each package weighs 4 pounds and Craig weighs 90 pounds. If the elevator can carry a maximum of 330 pounds at a time, which inequality shows the maximum number of packages, n, that Craig can carry with himself in the elevator if he is the only passenger? n ≥ 60 n ≤ 60 n ≤ 236 n ≥ 236

OpenStudy (griffindore):

hey jk

OpenStudy (griffindore):

i was gonna ask u this to but u left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello! The elevator can't carry more then 330 pounds. Since he already weighs 90 pounds, The packages can't exceed 330-90.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

ya i know that much

OpenStudy (griffindore):

but why 330 to (90)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You then take that number 330-90, and divide by 4, to see how many packages he can carry. It's 330 to 90 because, we need to subtract his weight from the total amount the elevator can carry.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

oh minus 90 wow thats easy i didnt even relize tysm can u do 1 more

OpenStudy (janu16):

Since Craig weighs 90 pounds we have to subtract 90 from the maximum capacity of the elevator: 330. That's 240 pounds. Then we decide 240 by 4 to find out how many packages he can carry so 240m divided by 4 is 60. This means that Craig can carry no more than 60 packages with him on the elevator so the answer is the second inequality.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

wait is it a or b

OpenStudy (griffindore):

wjat does n stand for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you take 330 - 90, divide it by 4. Then you'll know the "maximum" that he can carry. The n stands for the number of packages.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

oh ok so b

OpenStudy (janu16):

b

OpenStudy (janu16):

i explained on the top how its b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. When you do the math you get b as your answer. Since n can't exceed the number.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

The sum of three consecutive numbers is 72. What is the largest of these numbers? 23 25 26 28 what is the three consecutive numbers

OpenStudy (janu16):

(x-2)+(x-1)+x = 72 3x - 3 = 72 3x = 72+3 3x = 75 x = 75/3 x = 25 So the largest of the three consecutive numbers is 25.

OpenStudy (janu16):

hope it helps

OpenStudy (griffindore):

i still dont get what the consecutive means, the largest number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Consecutive means in a row, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5....

OpenStudy (griffindore):

oh ok

OpenStudy (griffindore):

wait so is the question asking the next 3 numbers after the choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In other words you are finding 3 numbers in a row that add to 72. You can use the formula (x+2)+(x+1) +x = 72 or think about what 3 numbers can add up to 72.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

honestly i am still SUPER confused on what the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is asking what are 3 numbers in a row that can add to 72. Then you have to find the largest of those 3 numbers.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

is asking*

OpenStudy (griffindore):

but i can only pick 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, so once you find the 3 numbers that add to 72, you pick the largest one.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

oh ok

OpenStudy (griffindore):

23 25 26 28 are the numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The "formulaic way" to solve it, is by using what @Janu16 said, but since that might be advanced for you, just think of 3 numbers in a row that add to 72. Then take the largest number from the 3. Than's how you get your answer.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

wait can u just me an eample

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 Consecutive numbers that add to 9 is 2 + 3 + 4. The largest of those numbers is 4.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

oh ok

OpenStudy (griffindore):

ok so not a

OpenStudy (griffindore):

oh its b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, all you have to do is find 3 numbers that add to 72, and find the largest one. You have to think. Yes, it's b.

OpenStudy (griffindore):

ya i get it now tysm

OpenStudy (griffindore):

one more question

OpenStudy (griffindore):

how do u figure out the percentage of a number to be a number

OpenStudy (griffindore):

like 15% of a 56-page book.

OpenStudy (janu16):

write the whole question
