OpenStudy (lilmike234):

If x-3 is a factor of P(x)=x^3-7x^2+15x-9 wouldn't (x-3)(x+4)(x+1) be the best representation for the complete factorization for P(x) ?

OpenStudy (alekos):

no I dont think so

OpenStudy (lilmike234):

So could you tell me what would be the best representation for the factorization of P(x)?

OpenStudy (alekos):

have you tried doing a polynomial long division?

OpenStudy (lilmike234):

Yes

OpenStudy (lilmike234):

Thats the answer I came up with

OpenStudy (alekos):

but when you expand the factors it doesnt bring you back to the original cubic.

OpenStudy (alekos):

when I divide the cubic by x-3 I get x^2-4x+3
