How did life change in the Soviet Union under Stalin?

Imagine!
You are locked in a cave, and there is a guardian sitting by it and
doesn't let you go. Even when they do let you go out of the cave,
they watch you closely and ready to put you back into the cave.

This is what life was like for regular citizens under the "metal curtain"
which came into existence under (and through) Stalin's rule.

Many people were sent to work camps in Sibirya and other places
where you literally can't survive (you open your mouth and teeth
pop up like bobbles under temperatures of 50Cº or similar to that
during winters and about 25Cº-30Cº during summer.)

Many stories about these camps were written. For example the author
describes a terrific, horrible, day at this working camp, and yet for a
worker it is a good day that he never even dreamed to have. (Now, just
think what a bad day in these camps is like)?

In fact, the number of deaths of Russian civilians in working camps (or
tried and killed by the KGB), is greater than the death of Jews in the
Holocast (if not greater than all WWII deaths together). If I recall correctly,
I don't know the stats, but a holy fricken huge (excuse me) numbers
of people died during WWII .... (google some stats if you are interested).


BUT, (some PRO's)
the studies at schools were great! country overall has been prospering...
the sports were developed well, people were always polite and disciplined,
country was organized and people were honest. (this is for the most part.)

Stalin held it strong, but held it too strong.
(My grandparents know much more, I have just some leftovers
of the USSR history. I can sit and recall more, but thisis pretty much
all i got right now).
