There is a play with the tongue-in-cheek title of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Why might this line appeal to some in a humorous or ironic way? Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the most beloved characters in the play, and their deaths are not mourned. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the only characters that did not deserve to die, and yet they did. After the immense bloodbath that occurred, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’s deaths are reduced to a mere mention. After the murders in the hall, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’s deaths do not seem so bad.
