The function d(x) = 3x + 2 determines how many donuts need to be purchased for a meeting, where x is the number of people at the meeting. The office manager uses h(d(x)) to find the amount of money to bring for the donut purchase. The function h(x) = 2x + 7. Solve for how much money to bring when there are 8 people in the meeting.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

So \(h\) takes the amount of donuts needed and gives out the amount of money needed. They did not tell us how many donuts we need, they told us how many people there are. But luckily they gave us a function that will tell us how many donuts we need given how many people we have. So 1) Find the answer to \(d(8)\). 2) Plus the answer from 1) into \(h\).

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

That should say 2) Plug the answer from 1) into \(h\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 59?

@zzr0ck3r

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Correct

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Note that this is exactly what you are doing when you use a composition of functions. You are finding the first answer and plugging it into the second function. In other words \(h(d(8))\)

ok i get it now thank you
