What is the main idea of paragraph 5 of Martin Luther King's birmingham jail letter?
"I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for law."

Basically, he's saying that if someone commits a crime and owns up to it and serves the time accordingly, they're showing great respect. Although they committed the crime in the first place, not many people will be responsible and accept it 100%.

For instance, if I were to say, kill a man, I would go to jail. But if I accept the fact that I did a wrong thing and that nobody else is to blame and just go to jail, it shows everyone else that the crime is bad. Nobody wants to do something after knowing that there are horrible consequences, y'know?
