OpenStudy (rhr12):

Do you need the formula?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Excuse the drawing! Pick's theorem gives a means to compute the area enclosed by a many-sided shape formed by joining up points whose coordinates are whole numbers. 'Pinball mathematics'. The only condition is that the boundary of the polygon does not cross itself.

OpenStudy (rhr12):

Area =B/2+ I - 1 *b=boundary point *I=interior point

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (welshfella):

from this formula the area of the above figure is 9/2 + 2 - 1 = 5 1/2 units

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

This is a pretty interesting theorem! http://openstudy.com/users/ganeshie8#/updates/558fb7dbe4b0058b2bb71eae
