Which of the following best describes the rhyme scheme of the lines below? Then he climbed to the tower of the church, Up the wooden stairs, with stealthy tread, To the belfry-chamber overhead, And startled the pigeons from their perch On the somber rafters, that round him made Masses and moving shapes of shade,-- 122122 ABBACC 1A2B3C AABBCC Surprisingly that jumble of letters and numbers means something. I just don't know what.

Any ideas? i REALLY need help on this...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It follows an abbacc rhyme scheme, which is also equivalent to a Spanish Sestet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What does that mean exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And to add onto that, the rhyme scheme refers to the end of each line, so church = a tread = b (church doesn't rhyme with tread, so a new letter is used) overhead = b (rhymes with tread) perch = a (perch and church rhymes) made = c shade rhymes with made = c so that's why the rhyme scheme's abbacc.
