OpenStudy (usukidoll):

Alright...it seems that when I go to OpenStudy through the old domain (inquus.org) I am able to log on and everything works fine. However, once I'm on openstudy.com on Opera and Google Chrome, the page takes forever to load and by the time it's done, I am only able to see my profile and the emporium. I am unable to go into the subjects. Anyone else has this problem?

OpenStudy (greencat):

I think that @Jaynator495 has a problem with the new Chrome update.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Maybe because openstudy.com is being used by more users than inquus.org.

OpenStudy (greencat):

It seems like Pooja has a solution: http://openstudy.com/updates/55b98003e4b0746426ddf840

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

That solitiong is less then functional

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

OpenStudy is managed by Inquus, so essentially inquus.org is not the old domain :p

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

no, openstudy is a sub-devision of inquus... i think... xD

pooja195 (pooja195):

You arent the only one ;p

pooja195 (pooja195):

"Anyone having problems with OpenStudy using google chrome just delete your history and cache it'll work afterwords it wasnt working for me i tried this and it worked you can also just reinstall chrome it should help!" Now its OS's fault :/ its not even google

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

it was googles at first ._.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

maybe it happened during a optimization update so it works best with the buggy new chrome version? x'D

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

idk i use google chrome and dont have any problems.

pooja195 (pooja195):

Its OS. NOT google

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Just delete your cache every once in a while, no problems that way. c:

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

and you'll also lose your notebook content ;p

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

It is openstudy.com 's problem. I did clear my cache (like all the time) and I still end up just seeing my profile and emporium when I go to openstudy.com. However, when I go to inquus.org, everything is fine. And guess what? It's a problem in Google Chrome, Opera, and now Firefox. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! It's like the domain of openstudy.com got rekt or something. Did someone at openstudy forget to pay their bills to reserve that name openstudy? Buying a website domain isn't cheap. Sorry if I sound like a total ranter, but this is extremely irritating and annoying to deal with.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

If they didn't pay for the domain, it wouldn't even load part of the website. It would either give you a 404 or take you to your ISPs "we couldn't find this website" page.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

how come when I go to inquus.org part to openstudy it works fine, but when I go to openstudy.com direct I have multiple errors at once? That has never happened before.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

no idea yo probably a problem with cookies, if I had to guess ofc I have no idea what the problem would be, but that seems to be the most likely answer

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

I've cleaned my cookies and cache and still get the same problem. can't be that

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

no idea then

OpenStudy (igreen):

Google is never wrong ;)

pooja195 (pooja195):

You arent always right.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

oh hey. I was going to post an update on here. So anyway, it seems that the inquus.org has been patched so when I typed inquus.org/study, I got re-directed to the actual openstudy domain and the issue seems to be fixed because I was able to log in and view my profile, emporium, and the subjects.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

First off, inquus.org is a cname. That means it is basically like a nickname. It does not actually point to any different servers or function from a DNS standpoint as anything other than openstudy.com does. If the openstudy.com domain went down, so would the inquus.org one. As a cname it points at the other name to find the destination, as opposed to a duplicated A record which independently points directly at the same IP. That being said, any cookies or extensions or name dependent parts of the server software will see the cname as a different name. So there are some technical differences that mean a client with a corrupted cookie, buggy extension could or similar issue would react differently. Generally, the server would act the same but the clients might or might not. As for the relationship, Inquus is the legal entity, the corporation. Think of it like how you see assorted logos on a package of food. It may say the name on the label of the food, but in the corner it could say "A Nabisco company" or "A product of Pepsi Co." and so on. It is the difference between the owner and the product.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

There is no such thing as patching inquus.org. Read up on cnames to know why: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNAME_record

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Oh, and this stuff is what I do for a living. It is the admin part of being a Systems Administrator for an Internet Service Provider.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Oh, and just FYI: inquus.com is a different story. They have used ti for test sites and a number of other things. It IS a seperate A record: http://www.digwebinterface.com/?hostnames=inquus.com&type=&ns=resolver&useresolver=8.8.4.4&nameservers= However, it presnetly goes to an instant redirect to openstudy.com. But you can see by looking at the DNS result that the orginal IP is completely different.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I never bothered checking inquus.net before (I did the others like a year ago and they are still the same.) It turns out it is another cname.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

it's inquus.org ya dingus not inquus.com

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

inquus.org will stay as inquus.org, and inquus.com/.net will redirect to OS.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

"That being said, any cookies or extensions or name dependent parts of the server software will see the cname as a different name. " However my server has been having some issues... as well as openstudy... (seems amazon is having issues lately...) ever since CEO chat peoples cookies and/or local storage data has been oddly corrupting, and people have been losing their notebook data (this is the whole reason i implemented the server save load in the first place) in some cases, it just corrupts and cant be read, in others it corrupts and is deleted so the corruption does not spread... but this is not the fault of my extension

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

i dont remember how... (assuming they havent fixed that bug yet)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Poopsie, Usuki talked about inquus.org in their question, which I addressed in my first reply. I just expanded on the issue to cover the others as well so that all cases were covered. As for redirects, the cnames are not redirects. That is the specific difference with a cname. It is an alias that goes directly to openstudy.com. Only inquus.com is an A record with a redirect on the server. Jay, no, I am not talking about your extension in specific. I am taking about all possibilities that can cause a cname to get a different result than the direct domain. I should also add that name based restrictions in firewalls is in there. Then there are named based script killers, ad blockers, and so on. Those are other extensions that can do exactly this and are not your extension. It is a long list and I only listed off the most common couple things. As for bypassing the redirect, exactly! That is a technical difference between a redirect and a cname. A redirect means you go to that server and interaction with that server results in you going to another server. This is a controllable event on the client side. In contrast, a cname only returns the DNS entry of what it is an alias for. There is no client control of this event beyond preventing the DNS lookup.
