Check this please? Triangle ABC is congruent to triangle DFE. Find x. I got 1/2x+2=10 1/2x=8 x=4, but then when you plug it in and check (1/2(4)+2) it equals 4, not 10?
Do you think x=4 is the correct answer?
I don't know, I thought solved it correctly but then the sides are suppose to be congruent and when I plug it in to check, they don't add up.
\[(1/2)x+2=10\] Subtract 2 from both sides \[(1/2)x=8\] x would be 16
I thought 8/ (1/2) would make it 4? Was I doing that backwards? Because when I put that in my calculator it says its 4 too.
Whenever you want to check your work, always plug in the x first when it is being multiplied or divided then subtract or add.
8/(1/2) should be 16. \[\frac{ 8 }{ 1/2 } \] is the same as 8/(1/2) The equation in the problem is (1/2)x+2=10 so (1/2)x is the same as \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }x\] meaning you multiply 8 by (1/2) equals 4 but the answer is x=16, not x=8
Ohhh ok, I get it now! I have an awful understanding of fractions so I always do those on the calculator and I wasn't putting it in correctly. I understand now, sorry it took so long. Thank you!
Yea, don't forget to put the ( and ) in the calculator. Glad you understand it.
