Thank you, you dont have to give me the answers i just dont understand it so plz walk me through it.
1. Tess and Dan have $24.00 each to spend at a book fair, where all students receive a 15% discount. They both want to purchase a copy of the same book, which normally sells for $24.50 plus 10% sales tax. To check if she has enough to purchase the book, Tess takes 15% of $24.50 and subtracts that amount from the normal price. She takes 10% of the discounted selling price and adds it back to find the purchase amount. Dan takes 85% of the normal purchase price and then computes 110% of the reduced price. Is Tess correct? Is Dan correct? Do they have enough money to purchase the book? Explain your answer using complete sentences.
okay so do you think Dan is correct for taking 85 percent of the normal purchase price and computing 110 percent of the purchase amount?
I am not sure but im going with not correct
good Job, thats right just to let you know and what about Tess?
Correct
Good Job you see you didnt even need help, but you still need to explain why
so try it out
yes, actually i guessed why are they wrong?
For tess you do 15% of 24.50..so now to do this this we do percent proportions right?
you just do 24.50 -15
that would be 9.5
plus 10 because of the tax
19.5
which is rounded to?
20
alright then thts it
ok thank you
np
So basicly all we did was subtract 24.50 from 15. Then add 10 and then round.
yeah but you cant explain it like that so simply, and you gotta explain why the other person is wrong
Ok can we go over why Dan is wrong?
sure
try and do percent proportions for that one
15% of 24.50 are these the numbers to so percent proportions?
If so then it would be 3.657
round
4
i dont know that answer sounds a little to low
oh ok what do think the answer is?
somethings off about it, i dont think i know that part its a little tricky
ok do you want to know what my friend said about this question?
yeah sure
$24.50 x 0.85 = $20.825 $20.825 x 1.10 = $22.9075 $22.9075 < $24.00, so then tess and dan have enough money for the books.
no that 20.825 doesnt multiply by 1.10 because in the question it says they both have 24.00 each and the books are 24.50, dan takes 85 percent of the normal price which is 24.50
Can't we just add all the number then add the the percents and subtract it?
