y=-3x+6. Find the inverse and graph it

OpenStudy (misty1212):

can you solve \[-3x+6=10\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3x=4

OpenStudy (misty1212):

then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/-3

OpenStudy (misty1212):

right steps were a) subtract 6 and then b) divide by \(-3\) right?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that is what the inverse does, subtract 6, divide by -3

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that makes the inverse \[y=\frac{x-6}{-3}\]

OpenStudy (misty1212):

or if you prefer \[y=-\frac{1}{3}x+2\] either way

OpenStudy (misty1212):

you can always find the inverse by switching x and y and solving for y i.e. starting with \[y=-3x+6\] switch to get \[x=-3y+6\] solve for \(y\)\[x=-3y+6\\ x-6=-3y\\ \frac{x-6}{-3}=y\]

How do u graph that? By plugging in variables?
