Define the resolving power of the compound light microscope.

OpenStudy (insa):

The resolving power is the ability to differentiate between adjacent structures from one another. Because microscopes use light to resolve structures, they are limited by the properties of light. The resolving power limit is, generally, around 0.2µm (200nm) for a compound light microscope using a blue light.

Is there a difference between resolving power and resolution? It is VERY confusing :(

OpenStudy (insa):

Resolution is the magnifying power however resolving power is the ability to recognize two points near each other as distinct points.
