Let's discuss the difference between static friction and kinetic friction. They are so interesting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First of all static friction seems responsible for withholding objects from even starting to move. For example given weight of a mass static friction multiplies the force acting towards the center of gravity and then the product of static friction tells how much force is required to move that object.

On the other hand kinetic friction seems to be responsible for converting the applied force into something other than the force being applied. One example of this is heat energy. Have you ever noticed when you rub your hands together it gets warm especially if environment has a temperature below your internal temperature? This is because kinetic friction causes heat and transfers the applied force into something other than the original form.
