Equation A y = 4 over x + 3 Equation B y = −2x − 4 Which statement best compares the graphs of the two equations? both are nonlinear both are linear equation a is nonlinear and equation b is linear equation a is linear and equation b is nonlinear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

linear graph looks like this |dw:1439405943555:dw| or |dw:1439405965158:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it looks like a decreasing or increasing line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i solve the equations though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are supposed to graph it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in points and graph them if you do not know the patterns or behaviors of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but how do i plug in something like 4/x +3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug x=1 the denominator is 4/4=1 so (1,1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if x gets bigger in the denominator and the numerator is 4, what number is it approaching?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't understand haha do i add the 3 to x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ x+3 }\] that is the equation as x gets bigger the denominator increases 4/a very large number will equals or approaching 0 In other words 4/x+3 is decreasing slowly because 4/4=1 4/5=0.8 4/6=0.66 that it decreases in a curve, which is not linear.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/(a very large number)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=-2x+4 you know what a slope is and which slope value this function has?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i figured it out thanks
