Algebra 1 help please will fan and medal

OpenStudy (hellokitty17):

Jim has a piece of cardboard with length (4x2 − 2x + 1) inches and width (3x2 + 3x − 4) inches. Which statement best explains why the area of the cardboard demonstrates the closure property? A. The length multiplied by the width is equal to the width multiplied by the length. B. The length multiplied by the width has the same degree as the width multiplied by the length. c. It is equal to (12x4 + 6x3 − 19x2 + 11x − 4) square inches, which is also a polynomial like the length and width. D. It is equal to (12x4 + 12x3 − 16x2 − 8x − 4) square inches, which is also a polynomial like the length and width.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. The length multiplied by the width is equal to the width multiplied by the length. is an example of the "commutative law" not "closure"

OpenStudy (hellokitty17):

Thanks @satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. The length multiplied by the width has the same degree as the width multiplied by the length. commutative property again not closure

oregonduck (oregonduck):

You'll need to distribute (4x2 − 2x + 1)*(3x2 + 3x − 4). Do you know how to ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is either C or D they want you to multiply the two polynomials to see what you get

oregonduck (oregonduck):

12x^4 + 6x^3 - 19x^2 + 11x - 4

oregonduck (oregonduck):

So it would be choice C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to do that multiplication, you need to do \(3\times 3=9\) products, then combine like terms too much work for me, i would cheat

oregonduck (oregonduck):

XD lol
