MEDAL + FAN In 1950, why did the Soviet Union object to the inclusion of China as one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council? A. At the time, communists were attempting to take over China and had yet to succeed. B. China would have greater veto power than the Soviet Union and would veto Soviet ideas. C. At the time, China was a U.S possession and would vote against Soviet interests D. China had just become communist and the Soviets did not want another communist nation on the council.
I don't know which one it is? Because none of these options are right.
I think A would be the least wrong answer.
Actually, I think it could be B
The communist party in china won the civil war in 1949 and they were the primary government on the mainland. The leaders of the previous nationalists groups fled to Taiwan and maintained their regime there. So the nationalist regime had an ambassador to the un that sat at the security council and what they did was (exercise) china's vetoing power. The soviet union objected to this; they wanted the nationalist ambassador gone, and replaced by one from communist china which would then have vetoing power in their hands.
Yeah, I know that. That's why I rethought it and I think it's B. Thanks for the help!
