Simple question for a fan and medal! Check below !!! Yesterday, a local radio station played 92 songs prior to 10 a.m. The station also played 10 songs per hour for the remainder of the day. If a person listened to the radio station yesterday afternoon for x hours, which of the following equations can be used to find the number of songs the person listened to? A. y = x + 10 B. y = 10x + 92 C. y = 92x + 10 D. y = 10x
If the person listened in the afternoon, would they have heard any of the 92 songs played before 10 a.m.?
I suppose not, considering that is crucial informationt that should be added the the question
It's there in the question, but you have to read it very carefully. Now, during the afternoon the station played 10 songs every hour. If the listener listened for x hours, how many songs would they hear?
140?
Remember, we don't know that the listener listened for 14 hours. We're told the listener listened for \(x\) hours. What do you think?
but it says prior to ten am they played songs for the rest of the day and the day ends at 12am thats why i assumed 140. I am honestly stumped
That's OK. For however long the person listened, they heard 10 songs every hour. If the person listened for 1 hour, they heard 10 songs. If the person listened for 2 hours, they heard 20 songs. If the person listened for 3 hour, they heard 30 songs. What if the person listened for \(x\) hours? What do you have to do to the number of hours to get the number of songs?
divide?
What do you do to 2 hours to come up with 20 songs?
i dont get what your saying
If I tell you that the person listened for 5 hours, how would you figure out how many songs they heard?
because its a pattern and the problem says the pattern so if they listeneed for 5 hours they heard 50 songs?
Right. What math did you do to get that answer?
multiplication
By how much?
10
Great. That's what I was after. So, if you know how many hours the person listened, you would multiply that number by 10 to get the number of songs they heard
yes
Using that same thinking, what if the person listened for \(x\) hours. How many songs would they hear?
Hello? What is \(x\) multiplied by 10?
I dont now
\[10 \times x = 10x\]Have you done this before?
no i havent i dont have any idea either
Well, this is an algebra question. It assumes that you know how to do this type of multiplication. If you examine the answers, you will see the correct one based on all the work that' we've done. What do you think?
a
i mean d?
Right.
its d
