Please help!!! I will medal and fan :)
2 more questions to this please help!
Which one do you think it is?
What was always the same in experiment even when another variable changed.
I'm thinking C, I'm not really good with science.
The control something that isn't changed
they're testing the effects of cleaner on the growth of mildew. so think.. they use two cleaners, and they want to test the effectiveness of each, how would they know how effective they are if they didn't have a third group where no clearer is used?
so you need to think about what was kept constant in this experiment in terms of the control @sunflow1
Okay, so I think Brand X was kept constant because it was good for 3 days.
hmm. if i'm correct the the numbers correspond to the area as in the growth of mildew so for brand X you can see that for three days the mildew is virtually non-existent it's zero. but for brand Y there are values for three of the days so which one would be more effective?
Uhh Barnd Y... @Photon336
@sunflow1 think of it this way. the purpose of this experiment is that you want to see which brand is more effective at killing mildew. the brand that's more effective at killing mildew will be the one that has the lowest area in growth mm follow?
Yes. Sorry if I'm frustrating you.
no you're not; it's probably that I'm not explaining it clear enough
so we can see that BRAND X is the better cleaner than BRAND Y because the area in mm for the mildew for brand X is much less
Yes.
(note they said something else): " they made sure that they did the experiment on the same tiles"
yeah
why is this important?
It's Important because they want to make sure they are testing it right...im not sure.
yeah.. that's correct ( because if they used different tiles) then the mold might grow faster or slower depending on the tile and they want to make sure that they are testing it correctly/
so would that be our control?
Wait is a control a factor in an experiment that remains the same
yes that is correct
so that means it would be C
yeah that makes most sense to me the four days wouldn't be controls and the two sprays would be controls either so those are out.
awesome. Can you help with the last two? @Photon336
yeah
Ok. Here they are.
let me ask you this question: what are we manipulating here in this experiment? @sunflow1
The tiles independent variable the one factor that a scientist changes during an experiment; also called manipulated variable
And I think its D..
I believe that it's the type of cleaner
because they used the same tiles remember?
yes, I kind of confused. :(
@sunflow1 what changes as a result of using a different cleaner?
the tiles?
it's the size of the mildew
Oh right, so it would be B bc the midew changes
Mildew*
so the size of the mildew depends on the cleanser used does that make sense and why?
Yes, because if the mildew grows and grows that means that type of cleanser isn't the kind you want to get. If its less mildew than its the type you would want, am i right?
yes perfect
so what would be the independent variable and what responds to it ( the dependent variable?)
The independent variable would be B?
independent variable = type of cleanser used dependent variable = growth of the mildew
does this make sense to you? if not let me know
Yes
Ok thank you so much
yeah last thing: Independent variable is what causes the other variable to change dependent variable. in our case the type of cleanser is what influences the growth of the mildew
once you've identified that relationship you can't get it wrong ever because that's really what it is at the core of it all.
