At the particle level, what happens when you touch a piece of hot coal? The particles in the coal absorb the heat from your hand. The particles in the coal transfer heat to your hand. The particles in your hand give off heat. The particles of the hot coal absorb the cold from your hand.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Do you know which way heat transfers?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Think of HTC which is a way to remember heat transfer. Hot To Cold. So if this is the case what would be your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dunno. It's why I asked

OpenStudy (photon336):

there arent any transfer of particles

OpenStudy (photon336):

but just a transfer of heat from two objects

How about let's say you have a pot of hot water and you want to put pasta in it, the water won't get cooler (may change very very little) because the pasta got put in, the pasta will get warmer because the water was warm
