A spinner with 3 equal sectors is shown in the figure. The colors Green, Yellow, and Purple are marked on it. The arrow points to Yellow. Two cards are shown on the right side. Their colors are Purple and Green. Which table correctly identifies the sample space of spinning the spinner and then selecting a card? jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

your thoughts on this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um, i dont really know

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you think the table represents? ie, what do you think the sample space means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it represents all of the possible outcomes, agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what is one possible outcome?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what colors are on the spinner?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yellow, purple, and green

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how about the card colors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

purple and green

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so one combination would be yellow and purple, agreed? I picked the first color of each sequence you wrote out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes agreed

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you do that for every color combo. This can be done neatly in a table. The question is: which table is the way to do it properly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm.. idk

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

list another combination for me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yellow and green

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok so far we have these two combos yellow, purple yellow, green

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

is that enough to see which table is the answer? also it might help to eliminate some answers. For example, the table with "Yellow, Yellow" isn't possible because yellow only shows up once in the spinner section

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the answer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

why B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk
