Translations: if the home equation is f(x) = x^2, why does f(x) = (x-3)^2 move the equation to the right instead of the left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To the right, yes

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Because the standard formula for translation h-> right and k-> upwards is g(x)=a(x-h)^2+k so if a=1, k=0, and h is positive (+3), then the equation is g(x)=(x-3)^2, and f(x) is translated to the right to be g(x).

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Ask in math, not computers.

@e.mccormick i thought i was in math sorry
