Do you know the formula for the area of a triangle?
no i dont understand any of this? :|
The area of a triangle is found using this formula: \(\large A = \dfrac{bh}{2} \) where A = area, b = length of base, and h = height
The formula shows that to find the area of a triangle, you multiply the base by the height and divide by 2. Ok so far?
Any side of the triangle can be considered a base. Once you choose a side to be the base, then the height is the perpendicular distance from that side (or the line that contains the side) to the opposite vertex.
Start with this triangle and choose the side labeled base as the base. |dw:1439843757866:dw|
Then the height is the segment labeled height below. Notice the height is perpendicular to the base and goes to the opposite vertex of the triangle. |dw:1439843838511:dw|
