OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

help me with quadratics? (x+3)(x-3) x = 3 y = -9 I have graphed. i just dont understand : describe if the average rate of change is increasing or decreasing, from left to right. Justify your observations with calculations. like how do i do/start this?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

im so confused, i really need help understanding this.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is it asking in the book?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

explain whether the average rate of change is increasing or decreasing, from left to right. Justify your observations by comparing the slopes calculated between at least three different pairs of points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u just take 2 points for example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when x=3 and when x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at the graph when x=0...its is at -9....when x=3...it is at 0....if u follow the line it is increasing between those points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and u then u take another set of points and do the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but its asking explain the situation between points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if we took when x=3 and when x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be decreasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh kk

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

im so confused...

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

gras can you help me?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

dude, chill, i have two people spewing information at me ! @Crazyandbeautiful

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make a table for that equations plug in x-values -4 through -3...the y values should be decreasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whereas if u plug in a different set of values they increase like from x=0,x=1,x=2,x=3...y values for these are -9,-8,-5...they are increasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-4,x=-3,x=-2 y values:7,0,-5 therefore decreasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why do we have some increasing and some decreasing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its because it is a parabola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it has a loop...so they just want u to pick 3 pairs of point and establish the flow: is it increasing?decreasing?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

thank you!

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

the flow is decreasing?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):
