Guys, peer reviews please. I will be submitting this as an an honest review of my past time high school education offered by VHS. Let me know your insights.

It was about 3 years ago I had the circumstantial luck to discover what now became a beacon of hope and where I am now proud to call home; Virtual High School, or “The Cutting Edge of Today’s Education”. I just can’t stress enough; my rather wondrous curiosity was wrecked not only with continuous distress, but also with the unspoken conformity-principle, which our traditional education system seems to impose on students. I question you; How much praise did you get for arguing with a teacher? The answer is probably none. Years in and out of confine in classroom (which I call intellectual prison), tireless passive learning of listening to the speaker (of which quality control fails), and overly un-interactive learning environment which somehow persisted until today in traditional brick and mortar school, had long before sufficed for a good incentive for me to “hate” the education which had carved my life for the past 10 years. Long story short, I was forcefully pushed through the conventional educational path laid out by our predecessors with no room allowed for diversion … let alone fluctuation in “rate of learning” or “expected progress per unit of time” as if the scientific principles taught in school had been meant to contradict with the fundamentals of traditional education. It was not until experience at VHS had produced a well-founded counterclaim against my previous belief that my distrust in education had begun to lift, and finally evaporated to the abundance of molecules with no trace of its past existence.



Following my first exposure to brick and mortar high school, I was immediately disappointed at the “This-has-to-be-done-that-way” dictatorship in education. It’s a term I coined for 95% the form any educational entity takes. I cannot stress enough how disappointing it was, to follow such dictatorship to learn when it was crystal clear that I was not going to learn anything out of it. Then, I became skeptical about education. I thought quantification of individual identity and learning style kills the curiosity, and instead creates a tension for its necessity to be done rather than self-induced drive to succeed, which happens only to avoid the criticisms of others. But then, VHS has changed the whole concept of education; Learning becomes voluntary in VHS. If you don’t want to do it, leave it. If you want to do it, help yourself. For those not into learning, better start working instead of wasting their life on what they are not to use later in life. This concept by Mr. Baker had renewed my view of education. Let me tell you, education is something you do for your own improvement. You don’t educate yourself just because others tell you to. The product of externally induced education is a dangerous dissatisfaction with self and disguised image of the role education plays in your life.


Today, I do this because I want to, I teach myself with the help from teachers because I care. And VHS has served me as a springboard to reach my maximum potential. I am already seeing the educational revolution about to be showcased in the next few years; digitalization of education/using technology to full potentials that allow for optimum learning on individual basis.

I actually just started Florida Virtual School (FLVS) on Monday, and I completely agree with your review. Granted, I am currently extremely tired, so I slacked off of reading the entire thing. Your writing skills thrives, by the way. Well done.

I love FLVS so far. I LOVE it. I love being in the comfort of my home and being far from unneeded judgement from fellow students (and in some cases, teachers as well). School's aren't how they used to be. I grew extremely depressed attending public school. I'm the happiest I've been in years. I highly recommend virtual school.
