what is the minimum of the function f(x) = 3 sin(x − π) + 4
I'll fan and medal
Where is the sine function at its minimum?
I don't know remember how to get the minimum in the first place
You do not need to remember how to get it. You just need to remember where it is. Think on a Unit Circle. What is the maximum vertical displacement?
HI!!
do you know the range of sine?
isn't the minimum the lowest part that the function reaches on a graph?
...and where does the sine function do that?
yes, but lets take it step by step now worry about all that muck you are looking at find the range of sine (if you do not know it, look it up with a quick google search)
-1 and 1
ok so the minimum is ?
between those 2 numbers?
no dear, the minimum is the smallest
okay
so if the range is \([-1,1]\) what is the minimum?
I graphed it and I think it's 1
Up is usually greater. Down is usually lesser.
so it isn't 1?
Do you honestly believe that is the lowest point of the graph? Are you sure 0 isn't less than 1? Maybe -1 might be still less?
Umm I chose 1 as the answer and I got it right so....
It does help if you show your work. You were asked question by two people and it only becomes clear now that you were answering neither. Next time, actually answer the questions you are presented. It will help quite a bit.
I did I answered what the range of sine was and then I said I tried graphing it and I got 1 as the minimum but I don't know how to screenshot on my computer
I think you were looking at y=3sin(x-pi)+4 when they were asking you about y=sin(x) instead @cocoapeebles3 and yes the min of y=sin(x) is -1 so the min of y=3sin(x-pi)+4 is 3(-1)+4
We were going one piece at a time. You jumped to the end and didn't tell us you did that. Just answer the questions, next time.
