While gravity is acting downwards, the supplies start out with a horizontal velocity component causing them to want to continue moving sideways when they're dropped. Air resistance would slow it down, but you would still have to drop the supplies before the camp site, such that they can fall onto the camp site. |dw:1440364493413:dw|
