squaring all that stuff and getting a negative number - holy moly!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah its confusing

OpenStudy (phi):

first step \[ \frac{d}{dy}\left(5x^2 + y^4\right) = \frac{d}{dy}−9\]

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay would I implicitly derive that?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Actually what bugs me is (2,1) is not a point on the curve! Could it be that 5x^2 + y^4 = −19 and the point is (2i, 1)?

OpenStudy (phi):

good catch by mathmate. It does look like a typo. **Okay would I implicitly derive that?*** yes

OpenStudy (phi):

I would also double check the problem, because it looks like there are typos.

Thats what the question says.
