How the variety occurs in offsprings?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

By mutations !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well it depends, there is more variation in sexual reproduction than in asexual reproduction. This is due to homologous crossover, the switching of 2 of the same alleles for 2 genes. Other wise, mutations or natural selection. Hope this helps.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

yeah so mutations occur during segregation of chromosomes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mutations don't occur during segregation of chromosomes, they occur during DNA replication!! @rushwr @twistnflip has a better answer, because most of variation is archieved through the process he described. However, you might want to add recombination to your answer (which is basically the term for what @twistnflip explained)

OpenStudy (rushwr):

@niels5x9 I hope that proves it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@rushwr That is not segregation of chromosomes but DNA replication also in practise, very little of the variation is caused by mutations, most by crossing over ;)
