Hey guys I am pretty clueless as to how I can talk my dog into not ruining my house by crapping everywhere. He has his own toilet. He does not look after his business in it. That's the problem. I've tried to talk him out of it like so many times but since he never listens I end up having to teach him a pain lesson. However I am not overly proud of using physical force to discipline a dog that cannot speak. This morning it happened again. I had to impart a lesson, but it hurts me more than it hurt my dog. Anyone ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You can reward it's partial approximations to the goal that you want to reach. (Like Pavlov's psychological study with rats if I am not mistaken that is where the idea comes from)

imqwerty (imqwerty):

u should give him some training :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

How can a dog have its own toilet???

imqwerty (imqwerty):

or u should appoint a maid for him :)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I am trying to (perhaps) propose the following: First reward the dog when it gets a certain distance away from its toilet. Then as time will go by minimize that distance, and stop rewarding it until it goes to the bathroom and then reward. After it gets used to the bathroom, stop rewards at all.

pooja195 (pooja195):

You need to take him out more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah so true @pooja195 he has his own place where he can do his business on a mat.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

LOL @pooja195 dogs r same as small kids u must knw u were once a kid nd u were taught how to go to the toilet lol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean with that being said, rewarding approximations will get long and annoying. (I myself don't tolerate animals. I love them, but only from far away O~O)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok @SolomonZelman that's an interesting reward system.

pooja195 (pooja195):

uhhh i dont know what world u people live in but if its pooping everywhere u need to train it if not just take it on more walks dogs love walks :-)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes, still remember all that from my previous a while back psychology class that I took for another 3 credit hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand how frustrating it is to live with animals but some of us are responsible for their life. We can't just dump them

imqwerty (imqwerty):

u should ask someone to hypnotize ur dog nd teach him to use the toilet :)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

That is a valid (and quite persuasive argument) ...

imqwerty (imqwerty):

or u should enroll ur dog to some dog school :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very true I wish it was that easy

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

It is not easy, i never said that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wish they understood our language.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No I mean hypnotizing my dog into doing the business for his reserved zone

imqwerty (imqwerty):

or u should take him to pooja she may teach him how to do that cause pooja is a QH :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh

imqwerty (imqwerty):

LOL

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

it is long and annoying. Very long and anoying !!!! But, the only thing that is simple is the algorithm (the order of doing these things).

pooja195 (pooja195):

Or ask the vet.............. :/ @Robert136 my friends dog understands hindi and gujuarti + english.....dogs are smarter than u think ;)

imqwerty (imqwerty):

LOOLOL

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Dogs can adopt to particular sounds too.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol probably a few basic phrases.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I like Solomon's idea. At least we know if it is converging or diverging!

pooja195 (pooja195):

It eats indian food too :P

imqwerty (imqwerty):

OMG!! really pooja

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not "it" it's "he" or "She"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dogs have emotions too

imqwerty (imqwerty):

wait u said dog so its 'he'

OpenStudy (mathmate):

"it" means the process, not the dog!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I mean the iterations, not process! lol

imqwerty (imqwerty):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll probably try the partial approximations approach. Sounds pretty solid to me.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You know, not all humans go to a toilet, and to teach an animal to do that is kinda tough

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

lol

imqwerty (imqwerty):

lel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It sure is... some of us are that bad.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Not all dogs like to do it at home. They like home to be clean too! :)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

With reward approximations, again, you can teach even mice to do that.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

but probably, with dogs it will be simpler and shorter than with mice

pooja195 (pooja195):

@imqwerty it eats roti and rice :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure enough.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

what if the dog is smrt it will only do what u want when it gets a prize :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Should I feel guilty when the only immediate solution is physical force to reinforce a discipline?

pooja195 (pooja195):

Yes

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I am sure one of your family friends is an expert when it comes to this kind of topics.... Advice a friends that actually knows about it:)

imqwerty (imqwerty):

what if the dogs starts to do evrything for a prize :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

Thats not the right way. You are hurting him emotionally and physically.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Advise*

imqwerty (imqwerty):

u'll get in trble :)

OpenStudy (aj_harleyy):

You should send him outside with some laxatives for the day and he should be good...same thing happened with my dogs and this worked just fine :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 yeah you are right.

pooja195 (pooja195):

Now apologize to the dog and give it a treat.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

imqwetry, you don't always reward the dog, do you.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

idk :) i mean......if the dog becomes greedy lol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

If you did, then yes, it would only do for a prize. My younger brother got so spoiled that it is really hard to get him to do anything for free.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Robert, do you take the dog out on a regular basis, like morning and evening, so he/she can plan for it?

imqwerty (imqwerty):

he strts asking for prize for evrything he is told to do :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, it's all systematic then... not for the owner to have to clean everywhere.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

nd pooja can u please change ur pfp :P

pooja195 (pooja195):

No

imqwerty (imqwerty):

:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd be disappointed if my bro started studying just so that he can get a little time for video game.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That reward would start to dominate his life.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Why I like that red circle, except that the segments in it are kid of random, and no diameter or radius drawn.

pooja195 (pooja195):

lulz @Robert136 GIVE THE DOG A TREAT NOW and apologize to him >:|

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Put a pampers on your dog xD

imqwerty (imqwerty):

lol

pooja195 (pooja195):

Huggies works too ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok @pooja195 I am gonna treat him now just a sec

pooja195 (pooja195):

And say sorry and give it a kissy :3

imqwerty (imqwerty):

:)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Good luck! (Oh, what is your dog's major ? \(\LARGE O\text{~}O\) )

imqwerty (imqwerty):

hehe

imqwerty (imqwerty):

LOL

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No, but you did remind me of my nephew (he is 9 months old). (Oh, forgot to mention he is not a dog:o )

pooja195 (pooja195):

LOL

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Ok, anyway, have fun!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Got to go to the math side, cu

imqwerty (imqwerty):

solomon u r in which grade?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks all of you my dog is now sorta take-it-easy mood with meXD
