trying to use elimination this time to solve system of equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i started it... hopefully im on the right track

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are do you know what to do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so i simplified it down to \[17x ^{2}-340x+1428\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now do i factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill take out 17 as a gcf to make it easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you actually are pretty smart some kids are pretty slow on this concept but you get it. these are just really hard problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes take out 17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha thanks.. the thing is i actually want to learn how to do it not just be thrown the answer.. i had a real crappy teacher that didnt teach a thing and im trying to take ap calc so i have to self teach myself alot of material (sorry ranting lol) but i factored i got 17(x-6)(x-14)..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@twistnflip

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats correct i am in dual enrollment calc now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do i do next? lol youre a calc god

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set them equal to zero ( forget the 17) and solve for x- values i am only in 10th grade lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg thats wild... im in 12th.. thats incredible. okay so 6 and 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i plug those into the original equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes now plug back in and solve for y and you have got it, one solution will be (0,0) for the 17
