If we define y as the number of 4 rookie card packs he buys and x as the number of 3 rookie card packs he buys.... clearly: \[4y+3x \le 38\] And since he wants to buy at most 12 packs of cards: \[x+y \le 12\] Assuming the card packs come in integer numbers (a fair assumption). This systems has solutions (x,y)=(2,8) & (6,5) & (10,2)
