The Figure below shows a rectangular parking lot ( i will draw) What is the area and perimeter of parking lot?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1440962589714:dw|

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The perimeter P of a rectangle, P=2(L+W) L=length, W=width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A Chain will surround the lot, which measurement would be use to measure PERIMETER OR AREA . The Pavement would be paved which is used to measure Perimeter or AREA ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 302 @mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

HintL: The chain-link fence is measured in linear feet, paving (area) is measured in square feet.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

302 in what unit, and answer for perimeter or area?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

302yd^2

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Not exactly, perimeter is measured in linear measurements , like feet, yards, or metres. So 302 yards would be correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The chain would be perimeter and the pave would be area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and why would that be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

302 would be the perimeter

OpenStudy (mathmate):

linear measurements are simple measurements. For example, area of a rectangle 2 ft by 3 ft would be Area=2 ft * 3 ft = 2*3 ft*ft = 6 ft^2. That's how we get the unit for area.

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

302 is the perimeter

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

5658 is the area

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Please, perimeters and areas MUST be accompanied by units.

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

ok f9

OpenStudy (mathmate):

AND according to CoC, no direct answers, please.

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

ok sorry

OpenStudy (mathmate):

No problem, and thank you for helping!

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

your welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who is coc if you dont mind me asking

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

code of conduct of openstudy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So For measuring the chain we will use perimeter and For the pave we will use the area ?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Sorry, CoC means code of conduct! http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

yeah

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yes, the chain has only one dimension, so linear yard. The paving has two dimensions (length & width), so area.
