to factor you follow a complicated plan: look at the last number, and list the ways you can multiply 2 numbers to get 5 1,5 is the only choice (24 would be 1,24; 2,12; 3,8; 4,6;) the + sign on the last number +5 means the two factors are the same sign now look at the middle number -6. the - means the bigger factor is negative. because the factors have the same sign (from the first rule), that means both factors are negative. look at your list 1,5 (it is short, only 1 pair, so if there is an answer , this will be it) make both negative -1, -5 now add and if you get the middle number, you found the factors -1+ -5= -6 so those are the factors write (x-1)(x-5)
