Sorry, the above link did not seem to work. This is the correct one: http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/92929/similar-triangle-theorem-in-the-incommensurable-case I'll give you an example: |dw:1441308807586:dw| The intercept theorem says AD/DB = AE/EC Substituting AD=5, AE=4, EC=3, we have 5/x=4/3 cross multiply to get 15=4x solving gives x=15/4.
