is Equilibrium a homeostatic state ? and can you give an example please?
Equilibrium is a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced. Example: the heat transferred from object 1 to object 2. O bject 1 amount of heat loss=object 2 amount of heat gain Homeostatic state is when a body maintain its equilibrium internally even with external factors Ex: a body can remain at a temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit even the weather is 32 degrees Celsius
The temperature outside (external) would be transferred into the human body, but since the body temperature would not change, it does not remain in balance. Therefore temperature externally has no effect on the temperature of the human body internally. Now can you answer if equilibrium is a homeostatic state?
so Equilibrium is not homeostatic state, but homeostasis maintain equilibrium right?
You may be right. Explain why you think homeostasis maintains equilibrium?
The thing is you are correct that equilibrium is not a homeostatic state, but homeostasis also does not maintain equilibrium.. If it did maintain equilibrium, then the external factor (weather) would make the human body cooler because it is 32 degrees. Homeostasis made the body stay the way it is even with water. Equilibrium is balance. The heat transfer to the body would make it cooler, while the weather loses heat. The body with homeostasis did not cool, therefore it did not balance out.
Shalante thanks for your explanation its really helping me understand more, so there is nothing wrong with the statement that says Equilibrium is a homoestaics state, because Equilibrium all what it does it balances and have no change, however, homeostasis is a constant condition with the internal environment of the body?
What I think of this question is that the homeostatic state is an equilibrium. Because Homeostasis is all about maintaining an internal environment right?
If we increase the temperature of an equilibrium, the equilibrium point shifts to the side where the temperature decreases right? Thus it maintains the constant environment. That's the same process in homeostasis right? When the temperature of the body increases we start sweating thus releasing the internal heat. So What I think about this is that the homeostatic state is indeed an equilibrium .
No, equilibrium has to do with opposing forces also. The opposing forces are balanced through it If your body temperature is warm, cold weather is the opposing force. In homeostasis, the body temperature remains warm.
In equilibrium heat transfer is Internal temperature+external temperature=0
Homeostasis has to do with body temperature and heat.
Homeostatic*
But even if I am wrong on that part, that is not what the question is asking. I am more confident that equilibrium is not a homeostatic state than homeostatic maintains equilibrium.
Yeah But doesn't equilibrium help in homeostasis ?
@Gabby28 Did u check the answer given ?
She is saying homeostatic not homeostasis. I made a typo and put homeostasis also.
They are different things.
yeah but isn't the words more alike because homeostatic means the tendency of controlling the internal environment/ That's what I have learned. The difference between the words are like reality and realistic
Either ways the external and internal factors are not in equilibrium. The internal factors is though.
I am following both answers and trying to make sense of it, still quit bit confused, so to conclude , homeostatic state is an equilibrium ..right ?
As nouns the difference between equilibrium and homeostasis is that equilibrium is the condition of a system in which competing influences are balanced, resulting in no net change while homeostasis is (physiology) the ability of a system or living organism to adjust its internal environment to maintain a stable equilibrium; such as the ability of warm-blooded animals to maintain a constant temperature.
What I meant by the 2 words was about homeostatic and homeostasis !
@Gabby28 I'm not that sure though. Since Salante is quiet sure with her answer will go with that. So the answer would be no.
The question should be better phrased imo.
Yeah it's quiet confusing
Oh you mean quite?
It is actually yes the other way around. I was wrong on that.
Huh? Yeah I got it wrong quite*
I am a guy btw. I
ohh sorry I actually thought that you were a girl !
Lol, I do not even have a picture.
A picture of my face I mean.
Sorry didn't realize it !
Lol, no need to. I get confused too. Someone named tristanwhitmore is a girl.
Shouldn't have judged by names too.
Yeah but I didn't judge it by ur name. it just came out I guess ! Just forget it ! I'm sorry again.
Oh I mean I shouldn't have judged by names too. Not you. Forgot to put I -_-
ohkai
Now I am 50-50 on this question. You may be correct.... (I suck at bio)
thank you Shalante and Rushar I will get the answer by this week from my instructor
