“Give me a place to stand, Archimedes said, “and I can move the world.” These words show which figurative language? A. paradox B. satire C. simile D. metaphor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it would be satire

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I think it is a metaphor. What Archimedes means that given the right tools - like a lever , for instance, we can achieve greater things than is to be expected. 'Moving the world' is a metaphor for these achievements.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but a metaphor is coming two things without using like or as

OpenStudy (snivvles.com):

its a simile

OpenStudy (snivvles.com):

similes use like or as

OpenStudy (snivvles.com):

so it has to be a metaohor

OpenStudy (snivvles.com):

*metaphor

OpenStudy (welshfella):

well i don't think its satire I think a metaphor is the most likely.

OpenStudy (snivvles.com):

actually it might be a paradox, because he can't stand anywhere if he moves the world.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

ha! good point!
