Trigonometric function problem: calculate a) sin pi/6 + cos pi/3 b) 2tg pi/4 * cos pi/3 c) (sin p/3 + 1) / (cos pi/6 - 1)
Use the unit circle to help you evaluate these functions. http://mathematica.stackexchange.com/questions/2456/generate-a-unit-circle-trigonometry If you need help with understanding the unit circle, try: https://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/unit-circle.html
My teacher says to look what sin pi/6 is which is sin 30 (degrees) = 1/2 how do I show this on the circle?
cos pi/3 is also 1/2
HI!!
if your teacher is converting numbers to degrees before evaluating, he/she is making wasting your time
The important part is that they are 1/2 (both) and she told us to evaluate using the unit circle. :/
@misty1212 is right. The unit circle comes in either radians or degrees. (see second link I posted). If you use the radian version, you do not need to convert, and get the answer right-away. However, at a certain point in our math career, we all have to know angles in both radians and degrees. Perhaps that's what the teacher intended to do... introduce the conversion between the two angle measures.
