You'll use the combinations formula as the numbers do not have to be in a specific order. For each slot, 9 numbers could go there (slot 1 could have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,or9... etc) In your formula, n is the number of things you can choose from, and r is how many you choose. Then you can just substitute and solve =)

I don't quite understand, but from what I do get I don't think you're on the right track. All you should need to do is figure out what 'n' and what 'r' is.

You know what, I am so sorry but I was wrong. Because each slot can only be occupied by one number, it is actually a permutation. Very sorry! So it is the same process, but the other formula. To find N, how many numbers are available for you to choose from?
