If you add or subtract something directly from you x, then if you add say 5, then your graph shifts 5 units left and if you subtract 5 from x, your graph sifts 5 units right
It's the same with f(x) but opposite directions in which you shift graph, add a number->shift left, subtract a number->shift right
i dint get it
Look at the following link, notice how the graphs r changing https://www.desmos.com/calculator
i typed f(x) but it does not work
plug in the calculator \[f(x)=x^2\]\[f(x+1)\]\[f(x-5)\]\[f(x)+3\]\[f(x)-2\] Experiment and you'll find how it changes if you change x or y
yeah but how will u solve this question
Look at the calculator, notice if you add something to x, it moves to left by that much and if you subtract, it moves to right by that much
yes
so how will you graph f(x+3)? it will shift left by 3 units simply!
yes
then?
that's your 1st part of question, can you shift the graph you're given 3 units left?
yes
it will be -3 but how did they find 3?
What do you mean by find 3?
they have -3 on the x-axis and 3 on the y-axis so how did they get to know the 3?
Isn't it given? If you want to find f(x+a) you shift f(x) left by a units, I don't understand what you mean by find
its fine i will ask my tacher someday thank you
